Sustainability

MESSAGE FROM GAIL (STORM) SMITH

When I set up Storm Botanicals one of my goals was, and always will be, to make products that are healthier, greener and kinder to us and the planet. The beauty industry has a huge environmental footprint and every business should be doing their bit to reduce the negative impact of their business.  As new innovative ideas come my way, we will be able to access them and continuously improve our sustainability goals.

One way we will continually evolve is to be completely transparent about our impact on the planet by keeping you updated on our progress, any initiatives we undertake, and how we contribute in our efforts to lessen the impact either within our business or in parts of the globe that are directly impacted by this industry.

PLASTIC NEUTRAL INITIATIVE

One of our first initiatives include a partnership with the environmental corporation rePurpose Global, to combat the use of plastic in our industry.  We will update our site with the positive effects of this program as we become 'Plastic Neutral'.  This means that for every 1kg of plastic our business uses we commit to paying for the removal of a minimum of 1kg from landfill in the poorer countries of the world that accept the waste we don't take responsibility for.

While this is not perfect and we recognise that more needs to be done, it is a positive step forward in the fight to reduce plastic waste.  The plastic that is reduced is the stuff that is never recycled, our pouches, soft layered plastics, pumps etc.

CARBON NEUTRAL TRANSPORT

Another problem area in the beauty space and ecommerce in particular is transport as we know it is a contributor to our CO2 problem.  We can at least offset the carbon emitted during transport.  We have partnered with Sendle for our deliveries, and Sendle is the first 100% carbon neutral transport company in Australia and also has B Corp Certification.  They offset 100% carbon emissions by investing in projects that have a positive impact on climate change.

We use compostable sactchels from Sendle and all our boxes, wraps and tapes are also fully refundable.  While it's not perfect it is the best way forward for us to be able to do our part in restoring at a minimum what we use, in areas that are really in need of it.
